The person next to you has a story you haven't heard, and you have a story you haven't shared yet.
Most communication training teaches you
to speak better.
We empower you to listen.
In a world of screens and noise, we've forgotten the most powerful thing a human can do, be present with others and truly hear them. Connection is a skill. And like any skill, it can be practised.
The process
Show up
Everything starts with being present — in the room, with real people, without a screen between you. The first act of connection is simply showing up.
Embrace discomfort
Growth lives outside your comfort zone. Throw yourself into the exercises, try things that feel awkward, and let yourself fail — because failing in a safe space is how you build real confidence.
Reflect and grow
Connection is a practice, not a performance. After each session, give the experience genuine thought — what landed, what didn't, and what you'll carry into every conversation that follows.
"The best conversation
you'll have today
won't be through a screen."
Simon introducing our first workshop, Cape Town 2025
Our approach
We don't focus on speech delivery. We focus on holistic communication that places equal emphasis on listening — because without it, all you have is a speaker pointing at a blank wall.
In-person only
Gesture, tone, eye contact — the full picture of a human being only exists in the same room. We don't do virtual. We never will.
Learning by doing
You don't get better at communication by watching someone talk about it. Our sessions are built around real exercises — imperfect, uncomfortable, and genuinely effective.
Regular reflection
You can't grow what you don't observe. Before, after and during every session, we create space to reflect honestly - because awareness is where real learning begins.
Hear from those who have improved their confidence
"I learned about question asking, the why behind it, the when and how to ask the right questions. It was an informative week. I realized that most times in communications, conversations around questions are often times overlooked."
"I learnt about the importance of listening."
"I learned that confidence grows through preparation and practice. Even when I feel nervous, I can still communicate effectively and connect with my audience by using strong communication skills, which makes sharing my ideas feel exciting rather than scary."
About
Most of us were never taught how to connect through communication. It is seen as a skill we need to acquire ourselves. We were taught to present slide decks and speeches, yet were never taught how to listen, ask questions and truly understand other people, while thinking on our feet along the way.
We started connectand because we observed this gap. Communication was being treated as a one-way skill, not a two-way conversation, a dance between two people with the aim of understanding, expressing ourselves and connecting with one another.
Connectand is on a mission to help people develop skills to connect with others through communication. We believe in holistic communication, which places equal emphasis on listening and question asking, as well as talking. Through this we learn to understand those around us, allowing us to connect through our shared experiences.
Communication workshops are just one of our offerings, where we look to help guide working professionals through practical, hands-on exercises with the aim of improving their confidence. From storytelling, to question asking and thinking on your feet. We will help you develop confidence in your ability to communicate with the world.
